Is triple glazing all it's cracked up to be? Join us as we explore and debunk 6 pervasive triple-glazing myths.

So, you're in the market for new windows.

Great! Replacing your windows can drive down heating bills and improve your home's energy efficiency, as well as boost its kerb appeal.

Now, what if we told you we could make your bills even cheaper, your home even warmer and your windows as good as new? And all at no extra cost to you, our valued customer?

That's right – if you buy double-glazed windows from Calder today, we'll upgrade you to triple glazing for FREE.

Triple-glazed windows are a game-changer.

Ours are rated to A++ (the highest possible BFRC energy grade) and can boost your home's thermal efficiency by up to 40%.

If you're thinking, 'That's a bargain' – well, you're not wrong. Get in touch with our friendly team today to take advantage of this very special offer.

Perhaps, however, you're wondering what all the fuss is about. Maybe you've even heard a few myths and misconceptions about triple glazing that are making you think twice.

We're here to put those myths to bed. Here are six tall tales about triple glazing – and the truth behind them.

1. Triple glazing is more prone to internal condensation

WRONG.

It's true that you're more likely to see condensation on the outer panes of triple-glazed windows. However, this is a sign that they're doing a good job.

See, water condenses on windows when there's a temperature difference between the panes and the air around them. Triple-glazed windows trap heat and make the air in your home warmer. This causes moisture in the warm air to form droplets on the cool panes.

Triple glazing works better than double glazing. It traps more heat, so it causes more condensation. It doesn't mean your home is damp or the windows are faulty. You can simply wipe off the water droplets and pat yourself on the back for choosing good glazing.

But let's be clear – more external condensation doesn't mean more internal condensation.

Double- or triple-glazed windows only fog up on the inside when they're faulty. This is more likely to happen with old or poor-quality windows. But if you choose good, sturdy, modern triple glazing, you can expect decades of bill-busting performance with minimal maintenance.

2. Triple glazing makes your home feel dark and gloomy

WRONG.

This myth has its roots in the fact that triple glazing lets in slightly less light than double glazing.

It makes sense – sunlight has to pass through one more pane of glass, so you'll inevitably lose a little light in the process.

But this is glass we're talking about. Glass is about as transparent as you can get.

Chances are, you'll barely notice the difference. At worst, you'll have to turn on the lights a little earlier – but the heat efficiency gains will almost certainly outweigh any increase in electricity bills.

3. Triple glazing won't help with noise

WRONG.

Triple glazing will help deaden traffic noise and other sonic disturbances. But it's true that it might not help as much as you think.

It all depends on the type of noise and how loud it is. See, occasionally, the extra pane of glass in triple glazing can vibrate when exposed to certain sounds. This can lessen some of the sound-insulating benefits you get from that extra pane of glass.

For best results, you should choose special acoustic glass that's designed to minimise vibration. Or, as a quick and affordable solution, you can improve its sound-insulating properties by installing a simple acoustic film.

Your choice of installer can also make a difference. Choose a trusted firm and you're more likely to get a tight, professional seal. This means less noise and fewer problems down the line.

On which note…

4. Triple glazing requires additional maintenance

WRONG.

With good-quality glazing and a professional installation, you can expect triple-glazed windows to last for up to 35 years. And just like double glazing, it requires only minimal maintenance. A quick wipe every now and again will keep the windows looking as good as new.

But, again, it all comes down to quality. Sure, a cheapo brand might save you a bit of cash in the short term. However, if you have to pay for new seals every few years, that day-one bargain will seem like a decades-long headache.

5. Triple glazing looks weird

WRONG.

This is an easy one.

Triple glazing doesn't look weird – it looks like double glazing. Even our extra-thick 40mm triple-glazing units are almost indistinguishable from their double-glazed counterparts.

Besides, new windows are almost always a visual upgrade – especially if your existing units are on the older side.

6. Triple-glazed windows aren't worth the extra money

WRONG.

There's no getting around the fact that triple glazing costs more than double glazing.

However, the gains in thermal efficiency – and reduction in energy bills – mean that triple glazing will almost certainly pay for itself with time.

How much you'll save depends on the state of your existing windows and the quality of the triple glazing you choose.

The difference between single glazing and triple glazing is night and day. You'll feel like you've moved from an igloo to an air-conditioned palace – and slashed your heating bill in the process.

But going from double glazing to triple glazing is still a big jump. Our extra-thick, super-insulated triple glazing, for instance, is a whopping 40% more energy-efficient than its double-glazed equivalent.

And get this – with Calder Windows, you can take advantage of these energy savings without paying an extra penny.
